Circuit Clerk

MONROE COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT

Circuit Courts in Mississippi hear felony criminal prosecutions and civil lawsuits. The state has 22 Circuit Court districts, and Monroe County is in District 1, along with Alcorn, Itawamba, Lee, Pontotoc, Prentiss, and Tishomingo. All Circuit Court judges in the state are selected in non-partisan elections for four-year terms.

The Judges serving the 1st Circuit District are:

  • Paul S. Funderburk, Senior Circuit Judge
  • Michael P. Mills, Jr.
  • John R. White
  • Kelly Mims

To assist in the judicial process, the Circuit Clerk serves as the clerk of the Circuit Court. The office receives and files lawsuits, indictments, motions and other related papers in all civil and criminal cases filed. The clerk also issues subpoenas and keeps a record of all judgments and executions.

The clerk also:

  • Keeps a general court docket, in which all names and parties in each case, pleas, indictments and records from lower courts on appeal are entered.
  • Keeps orders of the court, which are referenced in the minutes book.
  • Enters a full and complete record of the proceedings of a suit.

The Circuit Court is the appellate court from the Monroe County Justice Court as well as all the municipal courts in Monroe County.

Pro Se Litigants should know the proper procedure for preparing and filing documents.  Circuit Court does not have pre-printed forms available and our staff is not allowed to give legal advice.
